Photographs from Great Smoky Mountains National Park Gifts to Friends come in all shapes and sizes, from monetary contributions through individuals, corporations and foundations, to the merchandise and artistic creations offered in our special event auctions. In 2006, Friends was the recipient of a very unique and beautiful collection of print and slide photography from the estate of Peter Dreyer of Knoxville. Mr. Dreyer’s work covered a broad range of subject matter, focused primarily on the wonders he encountered in the natural world. One of his favorite places to photograph was Great Smoky Mountains National Park, especially waterfalls throughout the Park, autumn mountainscapes, and Cades Cove. His love for the Smokies led his wife, Trudy, to offer this deeply meaningful gift to Friends. She recently wrote, “I have always felt that his photos and slides should be donated to a group or organization that would be able to appreciate them and use them most effectively.” Examples of Mr. Dreyer’s work are pictured here, and show the immense talent he had for capturing nature’s beauty.
