Friends of the Smokies and Great Smoky Mountains National Park are seeking outstanding community leaders to participate in Experience Your Smokies.  This fantastic field-based program provides the unique opportunity for participants to get an inside look at and hands-on experience with Park issues while networking with other community leaders.

Experience Your Smokies (for Cocke, Knox and Sevier Counties, Tennessee***) is administered through Friends of the Smokies.  Candidates for Experience Your Smokies satisfy the following criteria:

  • Are considered “Leaders” within the community
  • Come from a variety of occupational backgrounds
  • Can become ambassadors for the Park and broaden their understanding of Park issues
  • Are willing to “get a little dirty” and immerse themselves in this field-based program
  • Can commit to attending all 5 sessions and the graduation reception.  Dates for 2008 will be announced at a later date.


To apply, please complete this form and return it to Friends of the Smokies between June 1st and July 25, 2008.  Class space is limited.  Applications will be considered on a first come, first served basis.  Please note that if you are selected as a class member there is a registration fee of $50 which covers all five classes and the graduation reception.  All applicants will be notified of their status following application review.
